Bun Thit Nuong Simple yet so complex, bun thit nuong has to be one of our favourite street food dishes in Vietnamese cuisine. Translated to noodle meat grilled, it’s a dish that lends well to the climate of Vietnam as it’s more of a salad than a noodle dish. It’s all about the layers in […]

Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach in Simons Town

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

We drove to Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town to get up close with the adorable African Penguins. It was such a great opportunity to see the penguins in their natural habitat. There’s an enormous African penguins out there. I missed the Penguins at Philip Island during my visit to Australia and I’m glad I made it to Cape Town just to take a glimpse of how cute they were. There are two parts of the entrance, a path that led us to the boardwalk and the other is the public beach. Visitors can’t get off the boardwalk since it’s a protected area, however, there were few penguins on the other side of the beach where we were able to really get close to them. They’re not bothered with the people at all. It was the peak of the summer in Cape Town and there were so many tourists. It was pretty difficult to take photos from the viewing deck as everyone was trying to squeeze in to take photos and selfies with the endangered birds, but the trip to Boulders Beach to see those adorable little creatures in black and white was worth the visit. I liked that the Penguin […]

Llandudno Beach could be your next favorite unspoiled beach in Cape Town

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

Llandudno Beach is a hidden gem between Camps Bay and Hout Bay surrounded by striking hills and huge granite boulders. Cape Town has so many wonderful beaches like Camps Bay, Clifton Beach, Boulders Beach, Muizenberg Beach and the lists could go on and on, however, it is such a challenge to find a secluded, unspoiled beach as most of these beaches is really crowded. Llandudno beach is such a great find on our way to Chapman’s Peak Drive, a small concealed coast in the suburb of Cape Town. It was such an ideal place for relaxing! Llandudno’s gorgeous beach with waves hitting the huge rocks is absolutely striking! It was purely serene. Surprisingly, the water is freezing in summer. I mean, I live in a tropical country and I didn’t expect summer to have a really cold sea. Naivety! They say that Llandudno is one of the richest suburbs in South Africa with properties sets on top of the hill that offers a great panoramic view of the sea.  It is also a great spot for surfing, sunbathing, BBQ picnic, and a starting point to walk or rather climb over huge rocks to Sandy Bay, a nudist beach in Cape […]

Comparing flights online

Shopping for airline tickets? Knowing where to go for the best rates, promotions and more airline tickets to more destinations will make that experience all the more enjoyable. When you’re planning a holiday or even a work trip consider a few of these sites to save on your booking. Expedia.co.uk has several destinations to choose from. In fact, you can find hundreds of destinations around the world. The site compares top airlines for you in seconds and you can choose from flexible or fixed dates so you can find the best deal on the flights you are going to book. They offer bundle pricing for car hire, airline and hotel pricing as well. Skyscanner.net also has great deals to be found. A great feature of this site is that it searches the web and top travel booking sites to find the best deals for you. So, the site actually “scans” other sites for you. From there, you can choose your airline, the dates, the destinations and if you need a car/hotel and want to save when you’re ready to book. Opodo.co.uk is another comparison tool. It allows you to enter destination, the airlines of choice, your destination and travel dates. […]

Bojnice Castle: Straight out of a Fairy tale Castle in Central Slovakia

Bojnice Castle is undeniably one of the most romantic castles in Central Europe.  Hidden in one of the villages in Bojnice, Henry was determined that we visit Bojnice Castle!  My 2nd come back to Europe was totally unprepared. No itinerary, no nothing! All I know is I want to experience extreme winter in the mountains, try husky sledding, and that’s just it! Henry is one of my awesome besties who live in Slovakia and he felt responsible for my Slovakia trip. I am such a pain in the head, I know I know. I am such a lucky monster to have such friends who can handle my spontaneity, and insanity. I know about Neuschwanstein castle in Germany that I am dying to see, but I never heard of Bojnice Castle until that day. Bojnice Castle imposed a medieval Gothic style architecture and I swear to God it looks like a castle from a Disney movie.  The beautiful castle is set in a majestic old-fashioned gardens complete with duck ponds and the manifold azure towers were like screaming for attention that pulled us closer to the castle. We were just right on time to get the entry pass for the last tour […]

How to Make the Most Out of Your Travel Luggage Allowance

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

If you are planning a getaway this year and your journey will involve getting on a flight, you might want to make sure you are packing smart, so you don’t end up paying more for your luggage than your plane tickets. Every airline has its own rules on hold and hand luggage, and if you don’t comply, you will face a penalty that can jeopardize your travel budget. Below you will find a few tips on how to make the most out of the available space and weight limit. Check the Rules First, Pack After There is nothing worse than having to repack your luggage because you just realized that your suitcase is one inch longer than the maximum size specified by your airline. To avoid wasting time, you will need to find the right luggage size. The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to buy a new case for each trip, if you are using different airlines. Simply get an expandable bag or a large tote for your carry on luggage. Get a bag with wheels, but one that is not a hard case, so it can be squeezed to the right size. Compact Items Make sure […]

Husky Sledding with Adventoura Slovakia and leading like a real musher with the champs

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

Chilly winds, freezing -17c temperature, viscous snow, and frozen fingers that will make you rush home to curl under your blankets, but not when you’re riding on a sled pulled by powerful huskies. I can still recall the brisk wind that fills my face while being hauled by dogs in the middle of a frozen paradise in the High Tatras of Slovakia. It was astonishing! The most magical ride I’ve ever been on. Just right on time, we met Erik of Adventoura Slovakia at Polianska and he drove us to Gerlachov to get up close with the pack and their musher, Maros. They provided essential details about the dogs, and the entire husky sledding adventure that would take about 2 hours. Assisting Maros and Erik by binding the dogs to the sled. The dogs were howling and the barks were getting louder, it was like they’re getting annoyed to get going! We were as excited as them and get right on their snow game. We sat on the sled and the next thing we know we were like on a speedy ride to frozen wilderness! I got froze in my eyes, and even so, the cold didn’t bother me anymore. The […]

Quick Quide of How to get to Hallstatt from Salzburg by Bus, Train and Ferry

Hallstatt is a quaint beautiful town in Salzkammergut that is worth a day trip from Salzburg or even Vienna. I took a cheap DIY trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg by Bus, Train and Ferry. Hallstatt does not need a long and flowery introduction. Let me share with you the step by step guide to get to Hallstatt from Salzburg. Let’s get it on! There are two options to get to Hallstatt. 1st Option: Salzburg > Bad Ischl  > Hallstatt   2nd Option: Hallstatt by Train – Salzburg > Attnang-Puchheim > Hallstatt   I did both! From Salzburg, I took 1st option and from Hallstatt back to Salzburg, I opt for 2nd option. Now here’s how it works. I say that the 1st option is cheaper with better and amazing views than the 2nd option. Salzburg to Hallstatt (1st option) Salzburg > Bad Ischl  > Hallstatt   Step 1: Take the Bus #150 from Salzburg Bus terminal to Bad Ischl (If you don’t know where the bus terminal is, It is located in the square called Südtiroler Platz. it is just in front of Salzburg Bahnhof Train Station, so it’s impossible to miss this!) Platform 1094: The Harry Potter Themed Café in Singapore

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

Tracking down Harry Potter inspired café Platform 1094 on my recent trip to Singapore was like making magic potions at Professor Snape’s class. You can clearly say that I am a Harry Potter fan by hunting this magic-inspired café in Serangoon. All in the hope to find the vibe of a wizarding world of Hogsmeade! The café is small, but the ambiance looks cozy, warm and with the woody home atmosphere. The café is dominated by the chairs with deer designs and a candle tree chandelier that evidently is not as grand as with the great hall in the Hogwarts castle, but it totally brings a magical feel!   I was spell bounded by the Harry Potter’s props replica like Magic stick wands that comes in different sizes and neutral colors, table top pillar candles, book of spells, sorting hat and conical crown witch hats of all four houses, sorcerer’s stone travel suitcase, Potter glasses, Hogwarts uniform, golden goblet and snitch, Hedwig on a cage, and even food and beverage that is bound to satisfy one’s magical cravings.    Speaking of drinks, looking at the blue drink on the glass mug made me ponder that this is what I came […]

Reggae, beers, and some good vibes with new friends at Bay Harbour Market

by Riz Baldivia @ Lamyerda

The Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay is where Capetonians stake their arts and crafts, some clothing shops, authentic cuisines, and African Liquors accompanied by live reggae music. What a brilliant mixture hosted under one roof! Outside it looks an old factory, but once inside it is incredible! The cozy ambiance with wooden chairs and tables is pretty quirky. It is probably one of the best places for hang out in Cape Town. Thanks to my newly found friends who invited me to join them over a couple of beers! The place is full of energy and upright vibe with unpretentious crowd. People drink, sing, laugh, clap and dance to good old school reggae music creating an upbeat ambiance. The market has tons of African Souvenirs, clothes, and overwhelming artisan shops. And oh, irresistible variety of foods, too! Freshly crafted in front of us! The market is such a temptation for memento collectors from African wood carvings, beadwork, and tanzanite to Amarula. The choices are endless! The colorful beadwork tribal jewelry and handmade leather bags caught my attention, I was ensnared to buy for my sisters back home. I took the opportunity to get some Rooibos tea and salt scrub […]
